Group Benefits

In today’s workplace market, offering an employee group benefits plan is almost standard. A group plan will offer protection for you and your employees for day to day health issues, however, even more important, a properly designed drug plan will provide catastrophic drug coverage in the event of a serious illness. Long Term Disability benefits provide income protection in the event of illness or injury, taking the burden off you and your employees should such an event occur.

Group benefits can cover everyone – even people with pre-existing conditions, as long as basic underwriting requirements are met.

Group Benefits.

A comprehensive group plan can cover employee group life, AD&D (accidental death & dismemberment), dependent life, STD (short term disability), LTD (long term disability), extended health care, drugs, dental, CI (critical illness) and an EAP (employee assistance program). It can vary from insurer to insurer, however typically the life insurance component is the only mandatory benefit. A benefit plan can be designed to meet your particular needs.

Group Life Insurance

Can be a flat benefit or multiples of annual income.

AD&D

Equals the life insurance benefit amount.

Dependent Life

Usually a flat benefit amount for spouse and 50% of spousal benefit for each dependent child.

STD

Provides income protection for short term illness or injury. Typically equal to the same benefit period of EI sick time, however can have some variances, depending on your choice of plan design.

LTD

Provides income protection for long term illness or injury. A typical plan would cover 67% of pre-disability monthly income. As well, it is recommended the employee pay 100% of the premium in order to have a non-taxable benefit.

Extended Health Benefits

Paramedical benefits, diabetic supplies, vision care, medical equipment, hearing aids, orthopedic shoes are examples of the benefits covered under extended health care.

Drug Coverage

A properly designed drug plan will offer catastrophic drug coverage. With many expensive drugs available in today’s market, you want to be sure you have access to the drugs that will bring you back to good health and not be limited in your access to them.

Dental Coverage

Proper dental health is important to everyone’s overall health. A dental plan can cover regular visits to your dentist and help you maintain good dental health.

CI

Criticall illness insurance can provide you with a lump sum payment in the event of a diagnosis of one of a specific list of diseases. There are no limitations on how the money is utilized.

EAP

An employee assistance program can provide assistance to your employee’s with anything from getting help finding a nursing home for your elderly parent to assistance for new parents.

Employee Data Form

When insurance companies calculate rates for a group benefits plan, all of the information requested on the employee data form is taken into consideration. The income information is required when salary related benefits are being requested in a proposal. If the life insurance benefit is a multiple of income (i.e. 2 x annual salary) the actual benefit amount is exactly that. Also, long term disability benefits are a percentage of income.

Individual Health and Life Protection.

Individual Health Insurance

If you do not currently have access to group health benefits, I can help you find a plan that will offer you catastrophic health coverage.

Long Term Disability

Your ability to earn an income is one of your most valuable assets. Although a group LTD plan offers some level of protection, it may not be enough to meet your current financial needs. As well, if you do not have access to a group LTD plan at all, your income is not protected in the event of illness or injury. An individual LTD plan offers you protection of your financial obligations.

Critical Illness Insurance

Individual critical illness insurance can provide you with a lump sum payment in the event of a diagnosis of one of a specific list of diseases. There are no limitations on how the money is utilized.

Life Insurance

Depending on your stage in life, the need for life insurance changes. I will help you make sure you and your family are properly protected.
